FARE Scotland Sector Skills Academy based at Glasgow Fort provide participants with a clear pathway from developing personal development skills through to gaining industry specific skills and qualifications.

All our programmes provide participants with the basic skills needed to enter the world of work, further education, or modern apprenticeships. This includes developing their communication skills, teamwork, basic numeracy and literacy and critical thinking skills. They also equip participants with real life work experience to gain a deeper understanding of employer expectations and needs

Customer Service Programme

 A stage 3 programme aimed at anyone aged 16 and over to help them to develop their employability skills and to enable them to build necessary skills and experience into the world of work.

This course is designed to develop and support trainees with their personal development, which will enable them to build their confidence and enhance their skills within the customer service sector.

The course will involve:

  • Gain 3 SCQF work related qualifications.

  • Taster sessions (Industry specific masterclasses)

  • Work placements within retail/hospitality sector

  • C.V writing/interview skills

  • Interviews with a retail/hospitality employer

  • Training allowance provided.

Barista Qualification

The barista course will develop your qualities and enhance your skills and techniques in different styles in coffee art as you will gain:

  • Knowledge in how coffee is produced.

  • Practical techniques in different coffee styles

  • Barista Qualification SCQF level 5

Hospitality Programme

A stage 3 programme aimed at anyone aged 16 and over who has an interest in working within the hospitality industry. We aim to provide the individual with the knowledge and skills that will enable them to build a career within various areas of the industry, whether that is front of house in a customer facing role, or back of house role working behind the scenes such as within a professional kitchen or housekeeping.

The course will teach individuals a combination of both classroom and practical based skills, which includes barista training; mixology; alcohol awareness and licensing laws; taking customer orders and reservations; and food hygiene awareness.

The course will involve:

·       An opportunity to gain 3 SCQF work related qualifications.

·       Taster masterclasses

·       Industry specific visits and talks from professionals

·       Work placements within a hospitality environment

·       C.V writing/interview skills

·       Interviews with a hospitality employer

·       Weekly training allowance provided

Childcare Programme

FARE Childcare is Stage 3 programme which is aimed at people 16+ who may not be employment ready. 

The course is designed to identify and support trainees with any issues, barriers or needs they may have in order to help them take steps towards a positive future.

The course covers multiple aspects such as:

  • Personal development, health & wellbeing, employability skills, SCQF work related qualifications and Industry specific work experiences.

  • The personal development aspect helps to build confidence, self-belief, resilience, develop a positive mind set and set personal/career-based goals for the future.

The trainees will work on their employability skills by taking part in multiple workshops such as:

  • Career development

  • Skills & qualities

  • Responsibilities of employment

  • CV creation

  • How to fill in applications

  • Interview techniques

FARE Sports Programme

FARE Sports is a stage 3 industry specific programme aimed at anyone aged 16+ who have an interest in working within Sports or who would like to progress onto FE/HE in this field. The course is designed to identify and support trainees with any issues, barriers or needs they may have in order to help them take steps towards a positive future.

The course covers multiple aspects such as:

  • Workshops from external organisations including YouthScotland.

  • Sport specific sessions with local successful coaches will also be put on.

  • Participants will also be encouraged to register with the SFA and take part in e-learning Child Wellbeing and Mental Health in Football courses.

The trainees will work on their employability skills by gaining qualifications such as:

  • SCQF Level 6 Emergency First Aid at Work

  • SCQF Level 5 Understanding Mental Health First Aid

  • SCQF Level 5 Health and Safety in the Workplace.

Alongside soft skills like:

  • Skills & qualities

  • Responsibilities of employment

  • CV creation

  • How to fill in applications

To gain practical work experience participants will volunteer at FARE’s programme or helping an external organisation. To help with college interviews or job interviews, participants will take part in mock interviews put on by FARE Scotland members of staff over the course of the programme.

Creative Industries Programme


The creative industries programme is designed to give young people an introduction to different industries within the creative sector, in particular Film/TV production, sound engineering & music production.

Whether it's to inspire a young person to take up a new creative hobby or to further develop an existing interest or passion, the creative industries course will help to boost positive wellbeing & mental health, develop successful learners,  build on their core personal development by tackling any issues, barriers or needs the young person may have.

 The course will also help to inspire the next generation whilst gaining the necessary skills, knowledge & understanding in music production/engineering & film/TV Production plus gain employability qualifications which will be an advantage when sourcing or securing employment and also help to bridge the qualification and experience that young people face when trying to get into further education.

FARE Futures Programme

FARE Futures is Stage 2 programme which is aimed at Young people who may not be employment ready. 

The course is designed to identify and support trainees with any issues, barriers or needs they may have in order to help them take steps towards a positive future.

The course covers multiple aspects such as:

  • Personal development, health & wellbeing, employability skills, SCQF work related qualifications, volunteering and Industry specific masterclasses.

  • The personal development aspect helps to build confidence, self-belief, resilience, develop a positive mind set and set personal/career-based goals for the future.

The trainees will work on their employability skills by taking part in multiple workshops such as:

  • Career development

  • Skills & qualities

  • Responsibilities of employment

  • CV creation

  • How to fill in applications

  • Interview techniques

The trainees will also gain work related qualifications at SCQF Levels 5 & 6 in First aid at work, health & safety, manual handling, level 4 Personal development award and a Level 4 financial literacy award with MYBNK Scotland.

As part of the Industry masterclasses the trainees will learn and develop skills in hospitality/barista, sports coaching and leadership, childcare, retail and the creative industries (sound/music production and TV/Film production)
