How StreetwYze Helped MC Re-Engage With School
FARE's StreetwYze programme supports young people to better understand the impact of their choices, build resilience and develop confidence for the future.
MC joined the programme following concerns around low school attendance, disengagement from education and risk-taking behaviour within the community. At the time, he relied heavily on his peer group and often missed classes when friends were absent.
Throughout the eight-week programme, MC engaged in discussions around knife crime, substance misuse, anti-social behaviour and the consequences of offending behaviour. As the weeks progressed, he developed a positive relationship with staff and became increasingly confident contributing to group discussions and reflecting on his decisions.
Positive changes soon became evident both within and beyond school. Attendance improved, engagement increased and MC became more independent in making decisions. He also enrolled in the Construction Aware programme, achieved a Mental Health First Aid qualification and began considering further learning opportunities.
His story demonstrates how targeted youth work, positive relationships and early intervention can help young people build confidence and make positive choices.
