For over a decade, FARE Scotland has been helping young people take their first steps into meaningful careers through Modern Apprenticeships. With over 70 apprentices supported so far, we’ve helped learners build futures in social services (children and young people) and community development.

Our apprenticeships combine real-world experience with nationally recognised qualifications, supported by FARE’s experienced key workers. Apprentices gain practical skills while making a positive impact in their communities. Qualifications include:
Core Skills in Numeracy – SCQF Level 5
Core Skills in ICT – SCQF Level 5
SVQ Social Services (Children and Young People) – SCQF Level 7

Another key aspect of the apprenticeship journey is the introduction of Metaskills. Comprising of 12 components including skills such as: Integrity, Adaptability, Collaborating and Critical Thinking, Metaskills are now an essential aspect of any apprentice’s work-based learning journey. Monitoring and evaluating their performance and analysing how they have been able to develop Metaskills in their practice – allows apprentices to consider what makes them a competent and confident contributor to their workplace and their community.

Many of our apprentices go on to secure full-time roles in:

Others progress to college or university, studying subjects such as:
Primary and community education
Social services
Psychology

Aimee’s Journey

After leaving school and trying college, Aimee wanted a more hands-on way to learn. The apprenticeship gave her the chance to work directly with children and discover her passion for supporting those with Additional Support Needs (ASN).

Aimee had doubts about leaving education early, and her family wasn’t sure it was the right move. But she trusted her instincts and found her confidence through the experience.

From leading activities and prepping snacks to building relationships with families and supporting children with ASN, Aimee’s role was full of purpose. Balancing work and coursework was tough, but the support from her team made all the difference.
