New building

In June 2010 FARE moved into a brand new building. The following is an article by Erin Molloy (Young Voices) written shortly before the move.

Relocation, Relocation, Relocation.

FARE (Family Action in Rogerfield and Easterhouse) is a local organisation. It has been around for 20 years and is based in the Rogerfield area of Easterhouse. FARE is moving home! Aiming to be in their new building early 2010. The new building is situated in Drumlanrig Avenue about five minutes walk from its current location.

In an interview with Jimmy Wilson, Services Manager, he gave me some information about what will take place in the new building. Jimmy told me FARE needed a new building because they had out grown the flats it is presently in and that could eventually cost a considerable amount of money to run. Jimmy explained that there would be various activities in the new building including a crèche, chill out area, café, I.T. suite and games console room, along with many more. Jimmy is hopeful that all age groups will use and enjoy the new facility, encouraging the different generations to integrate. Jimmy is hoping that the move to a different location will not create problems for people who already use the services FARE provide. Although he has received a lot of positive feedback a few local people still have some concerns regarding the move.

The benefits to the community of having a purpose built facility are many; bringing different areas together, rooms that are designed for the purpose of the service delivery, improved disabled access, services/clubs to be open later hours through out the week and provide a wider range of activities. This is an exciting time for everyone involved with FARE and a chance for FARE to open its doors to the wider community.
